The bridge, built before 1954, allowed crossing over the Pisa-Lucca railway line and was part of the old route of the A11 highway, which is now closed to traffic.
The project involved the complete demolition of the deck and arches using explosives, while preserving the piers, with a temporary suspension of the railway line.
