Seismic risk analysis at the territorial scale - Calenzano (FI)

The objective of this work was the development of a municipal seismic risk map. To achieve this goal, a dedicated georeferenced database was created at single building scale, as result of a direct observation of the structures. This aimed to highlight the typological-structural characteristics of the most common building classes in the municipal area, in order to perform a seismic vulnerability analysis at territorial scale. The exposure class was evaluated based on the number of buildings and residents in each homogeneous sub-municipal area, while the overall hazard class was derived from the base hazard and local hazard, as explained in the seismic microzonation maps. The resulting seismic risk map, formed by the overlap of the vulnerability, exposure, and hazard maps, represent a significant resource for civil protection purposes, as well as for urban planning ones. It allows for an immediate identification of the least safe areas and the most fragile building classes, serving as a valuable support for public administrations in establishing and planning a careful monitoring, verification, and structural reinforcement policy for the built environment.
