Castelnuovo is a medieval village in the municipality of San Pio delle Camere (AQ) that was severely damaged following the L'Aquila earthquake in 2009. The village is situated on a hill in the Navelli plain, where numerous underground cavities have been created during the time. In this activity, the programming, planning, and analysis of the geological, geotechnical, and geophysical investigations necessary to characterize the soil and identify all the existing cavities have been carried out. Subsequently, a local seismic response analysis has been performed, also evaluating the influence of the cavities. Moreover, the design of interventions for the safety of the cavities has been developed.
